Reel Romance, Snow White & Tummy Troubles Dr. Sue

What do you have in common with movie star Snow White?

Are you pure as snow, wrinkle-free, with flat abs?

Do you know any witches?

Snow White’s animated witch may be for “reel.”

But tummy trouble is all too real.  So here are some tips based on my recent experience – and crowd-sourced from my Facebook friends.

If you’re really in pain, or it lingers, or you’re worried, see a medical doctor. I did and got much-needed antibiotics.  You could have a toxic infection, appendicitis or something serious, so get professional help.

If it’s a simple tummy-ache,  here is advice from my Facebook friends, who acted like real friends in my moment of need.  Thanks, guys. Here goes…

  1. Ginger Ale will help.(Gretta M. Heron)
  2. Drink apple cider vinegar works for me. (Jason Rupp)
  3. The best stuff for a messed up stomach? Carrot juice. I swear by it. (Ron McKechnie)
  4. Suck on some hard candy – my recommendation is Werther’s. If you are feeling better, chee some gum. Both will help your stomach prepare to have solid food again.Once you start semi solids, try some ginger chews (Trader Joes). It will help your stomach and digestion. (Laura Levinsky)
  5. Ginger Chews – they work. (Thomas Engstrom)
  6. One can of Coca-Cola will do the trick! Charcoal capsules are also good to absorb all the baddies and eliminate them. Now available in drugstores. But not if you’re taking antibiotics. You don’t want to eliminate the good stuff.(Melba LaRose)
  7. I always have mashed potatoes or baked potatoes as one of my first foods when coming back from a stomach bug.(Audra Hale-Maddox)
  8. Rest up. (Cheryl J. Fish)
  9.  Chamomile tea (Irene Market)
  10. Try Cream of Wheat. It works faster and better. Cola syrup helps too. (Merrilly Noeth)
  11. Lots of Healing Energy and Love (Rob Resnick)

Yes! Besides all the practical tips, I want to thank the many, many more friends who showed love and concern.

I honestly didn’t expect this outpouring of support – and it helped a lot!

Now that’s real and reel romance! Hugs2U Sue

Reel Romance & Food Poisoning by Dr. Sue

What do I have in common with movie star Glenn Close?

We were both poisoned!

Here’s Glenn, playing Queen Gertrude in Hamlet (Act V) Is she thinking: “The drink, the drink! I am poisoned.” (dies)

Or, like me, “Was is the under-cooked noodles or beef in my take-out soup?”

So here I am, with food-poisoning a few days before Thanksgiving, surviving on nutrition shakes, water, mush, and antibiotics.

The good news is the concern and advice of my friends – on and off Facebook. In case it’s helpful, I’ll share:

  1.  Charcoal capsules. Some folks don’t/can’t/won’t take antibiotics – this is great cleanser.
  2. Ginger chews: settle the tummy and come in chew-able candy.
  3. Coca Cola? My FB Friend Melba LaRose suggested a can of coke (works for her). Here’s my reply: “The Coca-Cola idea could be good..but last night I watched “Feud” and Joan Crawford peddled Pepsi. How can I be disloyal to Joan? Hollywood was rife with sexism and disloyalty (not like now). I need to follow the good example of our current producers and media stars.
  4. Entertainment/Reel Romance: After I said I would watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade on television, my FB friend offered: “Parade followed by the National Dog Show, followed by a repeat of the parade will cover most of your day…”

Here’s my reply: “After the parade, dog show, and repeat parade, I may shoot myself! That will solve the issue of solid food.”

Meantime, I’ll keep writing my Reel Romance Blog.

I invite you to take it as a challenge to connect the “real” world (including food poisoning) to the  “reel” world of movies, romance, fun, and friendship.

Here’s a cheerful photo of me from digestible days.

I’m drinking a  Reel Romance martini (with heart stirrer) that I’m using to toast my comedy “Reel Romance with a Twist!”

I’m on the red carpet of New York New Works Theatre Festival.

My “reel” cocktail is made of air, and the glass is made of plastic. Is the olive real or as fake as Glenn Close’ braid? Stay tuned.

Let me know if you’d like to include Reel Romance themes at your events. Please follow and like blog. You can put your comments on Facebook.  If I include your comments in my Blog, I’ll keep them anonymous – unless you give permission.

Dr. Sue Sings Funny, Diversity Election Song!

Dr. Sue Horowitz sings her original, funny diversity song “Life Is Just a Bowl of Gravy” A Turkey meets a Pilgrim who invites her for dinner!

Please Like, Share & Subscribe to my YouTube Channel! Scroll Down for Lyric.

LIFE IS JUST A BOWL OF GRAVY ©Susan Horowitz
This is a tale of a turkey bird who went to a turkey trot
When anyone asked her “Will you dance?” She answered “I will not.
I’ll only dance with a gentleman who makes our country great
If he’s got money, I’ll call him my honey, and he will be my date.”
Life is just a bowl of gravy – it’s saucy and surprising – and very appetizing!

Suddenly somebody stepped on in who came from Pilgrim stock
He said, “I’ll be candid, I have just landed nearby on Plymouth Rock
I got money and power, I sail the Mayflower and you look mighty fine
Please do not stall, be my butterball, and come with me to dine.”
Life is just a bowl of gravy – it’s saucy and surprising – and very appetizing!

They went to a fabulous restaurant, she was his dinner date
When they got there, the table was bare except for an empty plate
The rest of the story is terribly gory – a pilgrim’s fairy tale
You may not get here by the Mayflower dear,
But we’re in the same boat – so protest and vote
And dance at our own turkey ball!
Life is just a bowl of gravy – it’s saucy and surprising – and very appetizing!

Hope you enjoy my song! Please contact me for Bookings as Speaker or Entertainer – Enjoy my Book “Queens of Comedy” and CD “For Heroes and Lovers”

My Significant Other is Plants    Words and Music by Susan Horowitz

Now I hate to complain, but I’m feeling depressed

Though I meet loads of guys who are very well-dressed

My cabaret lifestyle is gay, but there’s one little thing I must say…

My significant other is plants

Certainly not anyone in pants

I’m annoyed ‘cause my life is devoid of romance

My significant other is plants.

I’m surrounded by men who are loaded with class

Their shirts match their ties and a fabulous ass – oops! I mean glasses

I think I am catching their eye

They look past at a good-looking guy…

My significant other is plants

Certainly not anyone in pants

It’s not dogs, it’s not cats, it’s not goldfish or ants

My significant other is plants.

A handsome producer –at last we’re alone

I’m on my bed; he’s on my phone

I think he is feeling the heat, though he never suggests that we meet…

My significant other is plants

Certainly not anyone in pants

Potatoes and carrots don’t do dirty dancing

I’m stuck on the vegetable aisle of romancing

It sure ain’t my druthers, these guys act like brothers

My significant other is plants!

Huayuan Art Show: Blog & Video by Dr. Sue Horowitz

rae-wangHuayuan Art, a New York based art foundation inspired by ancient Asian art and culture. sponsors an exhibit based on ancient Chinese Buddhist cave paintings.

Here I am with Rae Wang, curator of Huyuang exhibition “The Other Lines of Time” – on display at 119 Ludlow Street, New York City.

As Rae explained, the paintings in this exhibition are created with dry fresco technique, which recall the appearance of original murals in the Dunhuang Caves – part of the ancient trade route known as “The Silk Road”. The artist, scholar, and mural conservator is Shen Yongping.

Traveling the ancient Silk Road is a journey through space and time of over a thousand years and miles – but you can experience this ancient, but surprisingly sophisticated Buddhist art by visiting the gallery or Huayuan Art www.huayuanus.com.
